Transition Whatcom

Transition Whatcom is a local grassroots movement that began organizing in Whatcom County in the
spring of 2009. It is similar to the transition City model developed in England and is spreading across the
globe. This model is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to get more involved with others working
towards creating a healthier, environmentally sustainable, and humane community. Currently, there are
projects centered in various neighborhoods, and around specific activities such as raising chickens, planting
and caring for trees, community gardens and classes in self sufficiency.

My primary interest is in the Heart and Soul group which focuses on learning and teaching ways to work
with our emotions and processes for developing group communication and problem solving. The larger
movement includes practical skills and the creating of supportive circles and celebrations. Please check out
the
Transition Whatcom website. There is no cost to join and you can participate as little or much as you
wish.
